Jazz Train Live - 11th November 2024

A chance to enjoy the show again!

Jazz train Live returned for its fourth season on Monday 11th November 2024 with yet another selection of guests from the extensive pool of talented jazz musicians living and working in the South West.

Simon Latarche’s resident trio of Sam Norman (Bass) and Keith Marshall (Drums) along with Simon at the piano, were joined on this occasion by a frequent additional member of the ensemble in Sarah McDonagh. Sarah is an extraordinary talented musician equally at home on any Saxophone or Flute and she demonstrated her versatility on these instruments during the first half of the show.

The second half then featured the ‘Saxy Maids’ saxophone quartet of Sara, Verena, Alex Burley (alto) and Laura Hosken (tenor) before all musicians assembled for a rousing version of the standard ‘I wish I knew how it feels to be free’ finishing on the dot of 10pm in true JTL style!

The evening was yet another tremendous success and a genuine team effort once again from so many at Source.

The sound of the group was also enhanced with the quality addition of highly rated vocalist and guitarist, Zena Smith whilst the first half was rounded off with a feature with Sarah along with fellow ‘Saxy Maid’ Verena Watkiss on the Baritone sax (a first appearance for this instrument on these live shows).

In front of yet another large crowd plus an online worldwide audience, the show was well supported by a number of Source presenters and a healthy £200 was taken in donations by Source’s Helen Read, towards the new Studio Lodge project at Kimberly Park.

As always, professionally produced by Simon Neild with Carey Davies on hand to guarantee the superb sound quality that we have come to expect from such events whilst fellow Jazz Train presenter, Andy Coote, assisted Simon with interviews and introductions. Thanks are also due to Source’s Steve Gruitt for helping with the pack down and of course Helen for her sterling efforts once again with the fund raising.

The whole evening was as always, recorded by Carey. Individual tracks from the evening are due to be played out on Source during the coming weeks.

Jazz Train Live will return!
